Admin, is there a way to search on 'Synthpop' and have it *only* show entries that have 'Synthpop' as the first genre entry or its only entry? So *no* entries like 'Darkwave,synthwave,synthpop

Mode101, I have plans to make additional filtering by styles, but I don't know when it will be implemented.
For now, the best option I can recommend is to browse the list of artists in the synthpop section, sorting it by update date, and then go to the artist's page with their releases:

Although artists with other styles in their tags will also be displayed there, but overall it's a little easier to navigate than scrolling through pages of releases with the synthpop tag.
(If you specifically meant searching the site by entering 'synthpop' there, then I also wanted to add the ability to more accurately filter there, but again - I don't know when this will be done, so I can't promise)

Understood, thanks. I'm not sure how the genres get weighted or added, but I was curious in seeing the 'purer' synthpop ones that have fewer other genre tags.  From your link it's pretty easy to see the artists that only have the one synthpop genre.  I'll use that in the meantime, cheers -

Mode101, I write tags by ear (as much as possible), so they are not always accurate. I usually list tags in descending order of their "sound", for example, "synthpop, ebm, darkwave" means that the album/artist has more synthpop than ebm, and little darkwave. Although this is a purely subjective opinion...

By the way, I added the ability to search by musical styles, it turned out to be a little easier than I thought

A small update on the site - the ability to search (filter) albums by musical styles has been added.
To do this, click "advanced search" and check the box "search by music styles". Separate music styles with commas.
If you check the box "Exact match of all words", then albums will be displayed that contain ONLY these styles and no others. Thus, if you write "synthpop" and check those two boxes, then albums will be displayed that have only one tag specified - "synthpop".
Also note that the order of styles matters, the queries "darkwave, synthpop" and "synthpop, darkwave" will display different results.

(For now this is a minimal and very simplified version)

I, too, tried the enhanced search feature (for a singular genre); it works great. Thanks, Admin, for continuing to make the site better and for responding to and acting on requests. It must take a lot of your time, but we really appreciate everything you do!

Only this function has a limitation - it displays a maximum of 120 albums. Although you can specify a time frame for the search - "a year ago and earlier", for example, in this case older albums will be displayed. But perhaps in the future the limitation will be changed...

Yeah, I've been limiting it to a week so I don't miss anything in my genre of choice. :) You can also favorite/bookmark the search easily.  Thanks again -
