carlmcoy, well, whether it's free or not is up to the owner🙂 Even if he created the track in a minute using a simple prompt, or spent a lot of time and added his own creativity alongside the AI, the legal rights to the material still belong entirely to him. Therefore, it's his decision how to distribute his product.

Another question is when an AI-generated product is passed off as the work of a real band - whether it's one person or several and when AI images are published showing supposed members of the band… To me, that's just deception 🫣 It's better to either keep quiet about it or, more honestly, state right away that the material was created with the help of AI. There's nothing shameful in that, because it will find its listeners either way.

As for whether this is "real" music or not - that's a complicated question. On one hand, AI is essentially a tool. Just like you can program sounds on a synthesizer, you can tell AI what sounds you want. The difference is in the level of detail - on a synthesizer you can play each note yourself and the whole process is fully under your control. But AI-generated imitations of instruments, like guitars… well, yes, AI can produce a guitar trick that not every real musician would be able to play. So from that perspective you could say the music is not entirely "real."

But overall, AI will never replace real musicians. There will always be listeners for both.
