The band was formed in late 1996 by Truls Kristian Nygaard & Jon Erik Martinsen after Jon Erik became disheartened by the direction his previous band (Apoptygma berzerk) was taking. Sweep's main goal is to make some catchy electronic tunes inspired by the music they've grown up listening to in the eighties. They've always been fans of synthpop music, and they try to mix that influence with more recent sounds and inspirations.
